Supplier diversity programs were built for procurement. To get certified, to get listed, to get found in a government database, a business had to already be inside the system — chasing contracts, navigating paperwork, meeting thresholds most small businesses never hear about. The programs weren't wrong. But they were never designed to talk to everyday people. They were designed to talk to purchasing officers.
Most underrepresented businesses in Kentucky were invisible in those systems before the anti-DEI movement started dismantling them. They remain invisible now.

Records include Black-owned, Hispanic/Latino-owned, Asian-owned, Native American-owned, women-owned, veteran-owned, and LGBTQ-owned businesses across industries ranging from construction and professional services to food, healthcare, and technology. The database is searchable by name, location, service, and ownership type, and is updated on an ongoing basis.
Link status reflects website availability at the time of our last scan, not current business operating status. If a business has closed, relocated, or updated its information, we want to know.
The People's Ledger was built by Joe Frazier, an Applied Sociologist, DEI strategist, and founder of Education to Action LLC based in Louisville, Kentucky.
Joe served as the Founding Executive Director of the Kentucky Chamber Foundation's Center for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, where he launched MBDKY.com, coined the phrase Minority Owned, Kentucky Grown, and secured over $500,000 in funding to build underrepresented business visibility infrastructure across the state. When that work was politically dismantled, he rebuilt it on his own terms.
This project sits at the intersection of his work as a sociologist, a strategist, and someone who believes data is an act of care. The businesses in this directory are not abstractions. They are neighbors, employers, and anchors in communities that have been systematically underinvested. Keeping them visible matters.
